# What's new

> What's new in Recontrol, newest first.

**v1.6**

November 2026

## The web app, alerts & one-tap recording

**Recontrol on the web** — new

* Recontrol now runs in your browser at [app.recontrol.money](https://app.recontrol.money), with the same account, the same spaces and the same books as your phone. Sign in with Google, Apple or your email; if you're new, signing in creates your account
* Every job the phone has: the four classes, transactions, budgets, goals, watchlists and New Plan, alerts, Chat, connections, and spaces with their members and roles
* The desk's own tools: select many transactions to **Move**, **Export CSV** or **Delete** them with **Undo**; the **To sort** queue for transactions with a side left blank; keyboard shortcuts and a command box (<kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>K</kbd>)
* **Export** everything you can see as CSV, free on every plan and after a subscription ends
* **Your AI tool**: connect Claude or ChatGPT to your books, free on every plan. It reads your spaces and can record a transaction, update a balance, add an account, set a goal or make a space; it never deletes anything
* You're signed out after an hour with no activity, and asked to sign in again a day after you signed in
* Subscriptions are still bought in the phone app, and work on the web at once. **app.recontrol.money/get** sends your phone to its app store
* See [Recontrol on the web](https://recontrol.money/docs/features/web.md)

**Alerts** — new

* Set alerts behind the bell where money is at stake: a budget, a goal, a card or a loan. A budget can tell the space as spending passes 50%, 75%, 90% or 100% of its limit and when its period ends; a goal when it's reached or paid off; a card or loan when what it owes crosses an amount you set, and a connected one when a payment is due or overdue
* Everyone who can see the thing is told. Notification Settings and its switches are gone: what reaches you follows the alerts set on what you can see
* See [Alerts and notifications](https://recontrol.money/docs/features/alerts.md)

**Fewer things to read**

* **Chat** opens from Home's **Chat** and the web's box, with three questions from your own numbers, and from **Ask Why** on a budget's notice. Screens no longer carry their own **Ask**
* Screens no longer explain themselves above your figures: an empty one says what it's for, and Expenses and Income Sources say that paying a card or moving money between your own accounts isn't spending or income
* On the web, **Roles** opens from **Members** and **Sponsorship** from **Connections**' **Paid for by**
* A new space's **Set Up This Space** starts with **Connect a Bank or Broker** until it holds an account
* An empty class says what it's for in your own terms, with examples from where your space is, and so do empty budgets, goals and watchlists
* Every suggestion on an empty class, Assets and Liabilities too, ends in **+ Add**: one tap adds it to the class, where you are
* A space's settings ask plain questions: **What currency should totals be in?** and **Which account do you usually pay from?**
* On the web, a page's title stands alone, links say what they open (**Manage subscription**, **Export your data**, **Status of services**), and a thin line at the top shows a page on its way
* On the web, Home shows **Shared costs** in a space you share: where you stand, and each person's position

**One tap to record, with Undo**

* **Mark Paid in Full** on a liability you keep by hand, **Record Again** on an income source, and **Put In** on a goal record their amount at once, from the space's Default From, with **Undo** on the receipt
* **Update Balance** sits on every asset and liability you keep by hand, beside how old its figure is
* Recontrol records payments; it never makes them. A connected card or loan shows **Next Payment** as its lender reports it, and the bank records the payment

**Reading your money**

* **Sort Your Spending** on Expenses and on a budget: "Where did ₹4,210 go this month? Give it a category and it counts."
* **Usual Month** on Income Sources, Expenses, and each source and category: the average and the median month, over complete months only
* The **period menu** sits on each chart. Assets, Liabilities and Income Sources open on 6 Months, Expenses on This Month, and a period your history can't fill is left out
* Every change shows what it's measured from ("since 1 May", "vs Sep"), and figures carry no word after them
* Income sources show **Last Received**, **Next Expected** and **Paid Into**; the importer now names your pay **Salary**
* Expenses lists **Where It Went** and the **Regular Payments** your bank has seen repeat
* A broker's holding shows its units and price, and holdings take their names from published fund and stock lists

**Transactions**

* A simpler filter in three cards: **Where Your Money Moved**, **When It Happened**, **How Much**. Each row clears with its own ✕
* **To Sort** means the same on the phone and the web: every transaction with a side left blank. **Sort Your Spending** opens the spending among them

**Plans**

* A goal is judged by the money you actually put in, and says its verdict in one sentence: "On track. At this pace, Sep 2033." **Needed** is one figure on the screen, the form and in Chat, using your lender's rate for a single connected debt
* A goal's month can be in the past
* A watchlist's card shows its change this month with its base, and its accounts show how far each is from its target mix
* An over-limit budget's bar shows the overrun in red beside the limit

**Fixes**

* Android signs in to Home again, and its header buttons sit apart
* Undo receipts stay for 7 seconds (30 with a screen reader on)

**Privacy**

* **Vercel** hosts the web app and sees the web's requests, including IP addresses
* The web keeps your sign-in in one essential cookie, `__Host-rctrl-session`, plus a few preference cookies. Usage analytics on the web are off in the EEA and the UK until you turn them on, and on with a switch elsewhere
* Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and the data pages updated — see the notes at the top of each

**v1.5**

October 2026

## Money between spaces & a new Home

**Money between your spaces** — new

* Record a transaction whose other side is in another of your spaces. It's recorded once and kept in both books, each from its own side
* It counts as spending where the money left and money in where it arrived. If you expect it back, edit it and tick the row that says so, such as **Household Will Pay It Back**
* Each class screen lists the accounts standing for your other spaces under **Other Spaces**

**Home and new spaces**

* New spaces start empty. Home's **Set Up This Space** lists what you can add — Track What You Spend, Add What You Have, Add What You Owe, Track What Comes In, Make a Plan, Invite Someone — and each feature appears once it holds something
* Empty class screens suggest the kinds people leave out, by your region, and the transaction pickers suggest what your space doesn't have yet

**Recording**

* One transaction editor everywhere: the amount, **What was it?**, the day, and **From** and **To** as one arrow over the keypad. A new transaction opens empty, except for a **Default From** you choose on the space's page
* Splitting a transaction is no longer offered. A transaction already split keeps its parts
* On Assets, Liabilities and Income Sources, **New** offers **Connect a Bank or Broker** or **Add by Hand**

**Plans**

* A goal can keep your own plan: what you'll put in a month, how much you'll raise it, and the growth and inflation you expect. Nothing is filled in for you
* An account is in one goal at a time, so a goal's figures are its own accounts' and can be checked by hand
* Budgets, goals and watchlists each read the same way every time: the answer, its figures, its history, what it's made of, then its transactions
* A budget stays in ink until its limit is passed, then turns red

**Spaces and roles**

* A new space starts with three named roles, each with what it can do beneath: **Admin**, **Editor** and **Viewer**

**Connections**

* Zerodha signs in through your phone's own sign-in sheet, so your saved password fills in
* A bank in a space nobody has sponsored for 30 days is disconnected; its accounts and history stay
* On iPhone, notifications can arrive quietly in Notification Center before you're asked for permission

**v1.4 update**

October 2026

## Goals, watchlists & income sources

**Goals** — rebuilt

* Save up to a target, or pay a debt off, by a month you choose. Each goal says where it stands — On track, Behind, Reached, Past its date — and keeps its history
* **New Plan** starts from what you want: Spend Less on Something, Pay Off a Card or Loan, Build an Emergency Fund, Save for Something, Retire One Day, Grow My Savings. Each works its answer out from your own numbers before it makes anything
* Chat reads and changes goals, answers "can I afford it?", and works out what-ifs from the growth you state

**Watchlists**

* Trackers are now **Watchlists**: assets and liabilities only, with assets adding and liabilities subtracting

**Words**

* Earnings are now **Income Sources**, at /incomes

**From your bank**

* A connected investment account shows its holdings, a card or loan its lender's terms, and an income source when your next pay is expected, where your bank reports them

**Everyday**

* Tap a transaction to read it, with Edit and Delete. Deletes and other reversible acts offer **Undo**
* Filters ask in plain words, and say how many transactions match before you apply them
* Split a transaction across several categories
* A space's page reads as plain rows, and deleting your Recontrol account asks you to type your name first

**v1.4**

October 2026

## Budgets, Chat that acts & notifications

**Budgets** — new

* Set a ceiling over a week, a month, a quarter or a year, on some categories or on what leaves some cards or accounts. A budget can start on payday instead of the 1st
* See what's left, how each period went, and every transaction it counted. Refunds reduce spending; transfers between your own accounts never count

**Trackers** — new

* Follow the total of some of your accounts over time

**Chat**

* Chat looks up what each question needs, over any period, and shows the real rows before its answer
* Chat can now **propose changes** — record or correct a transaction, update a balance, add an account or a category, set a budget, delete — on a card you confirm. Nothing changes until you do, and **Edit Before Saving** opens a proposed transaction in the editor
* Chat asks you to turn on **AI features** the first time you ask, instead of when you subscribe. Your choice is kept on our server, and you can turn it off in Settings

**Notifications**

* A notifications inbox behind the bell on Home, with your unread count
* **Needs You** at the top of Home lists only what waits on you: a bank to reconnect, or a space whose bank sync is paused
* A budget that goes over tells the space, with **Ask Why** to ask Chat about it. Pushes include their amounts

**Accounts**

* Assets, Liabilities, Earnings and Expenses are each their own screen, with their own figure and everyday action
* **Merge** folds one account into another of its class and currency
* Imported bank transactions land in the categories your space already uses, learning from the ones you move. For a kind your space hasn't seen, the merchant and your category names can go to Anthropic to choose among your categories, only if the person who linked the bank has turned on AI features

- **Net worth is gone.** Recontrol no longer nets what you have against what you owe

**Feedback**

* **Send Feedback** in Settings — a bug, an idea or something else, privately, with a reply if you want one — replaces the feature-request board

**v1.3**

July 2026

## AI Chat, subscriptions & a move to Virginia

**AI Chat** — new

* Ask about your money in plain language, by typing or by voice, from the **Chat** button on Home
* **Recontrol computes every figure; the model only narrates it.** It is instructed to state numbers verbatim from what we computed, never to calculate its own, and to say it does not have a figure rather than guess
* **Read-only** — it cannot create, edit, delete, or move anything
* Honest caveats lead the answer: a connection that stopped syncing, money not yet categorised, and totals that could not be fully currency-converted are all flagged rather than hidden
* Voice mode with editable dictation — a spoken question is never sent without your confirmation — plus copy, share, and opt-in read-aloud on a settled answer
* **No conversation history is stored on our servers.** The transcript lives on your device for the session only. We keep the text of your question; the answer is never stored. See [AI and your data](https://recontrol.money/docs/data/ai.md)

**Plans & billing** — new

* The ledger stays **free, permanently** — unlimited accounts, transactions, history, spaces, members and custom roles, with no numeric limits
* A subscription unlocks **connected bank and broker accounts** and **AI Chat**. Auto-categorisation and reports & digests are planned and not yet available
* Monthly and annual plans, purchased through the App Store or Google Play. **One free month** for new subscribers, once per person, enforced by the stores
* **Sponsorship** — any member of a shared space can put their own subscription behind it to pay for its bank connections; several people can sponsor the same space, and withdrawing removes nobody and deletes nothing
* AI Chat runs on **your own** subscription in any space you belong to; bank connections run on whoever sponsors the space
* If a subscription lapses, syncing and chat stop and **nothing else changes** — your books stay fully readable and editable, forever
* Restore purchases, manage and cancel through your app store. **Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription** — the app now warns you and links you to your store's settings

**Account deletion**

* Deletion is **never blocked** by a shared space. A space where you are the only member is deleted with you; a space with other members survives, and if you were its only administrator the longest-standing remaining member is promoted automatically. You no longer have to transfer or delete a space first
* Connected integrations are revoked at the provider before anything is deleted

**Infrastructure & privacy**

* **The database moved from AWS ap-south-1 (Mumbai, India) to AWS us-east-1 (Northern Virginia, United States)**, putting it in the same country as the API that reads it. Sessions, sign-ins and installed apps carried across with no action needed. See [Privacy Policy §8](https://recontrol.money/docs/legal/privacy.md#8-data-storage-location-and-international-data-transfers)
* New observability stack — OpenTelemetry traces, metrics and logs through a collector we run ourselves to **Grafana Cloud (US)**, with sensitive fields stripped at the source under a deny-by-default allowlist
* **Crash and error reporting** through PostHog, covered by the same analytics opt-out. Error messages and runtime values are removed before sending; only the error type and code locations are kept
* New processors disclosed: **Anthropic** (AI Chat), **RevenueCat** (subscriptions), **Grafana Labs** (monitoring)
* Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Information Security Policy, Data Retention and Access Controls policies all updated — see the notes at the top of each

**v1.1**

June 2026

## Connected accounts, notifications & more

**Connected accounts (optional)** — now available

* Connect banks in the **United States and Canada** via **Plaid** to import balances and transactions automatically (up to two years of history on first connect), kept fresh on a schedule and via secure webhooks
* Connect your **Zerodha** account (India) via Kite Connect to import equity and mutual-fund holdings
* Bank and broker login credentials are never seen or stored by Recontrol; access tokens are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM)
* Connected accounts can be disconnected at any time, which revokes and deletes the stored token

**Notifications**

* Opt-in push notifications for connection and account activity, with per-type controls

**Privacy & analytics**

* Added **PostHog** product analytics (US cloud) to help us improve the app — pseudonymous, never your financial data, and **opt-out** in Settings
* Account deletion now runs server-side and sends a confirmation email; sign-in supports email & password, Google, and Apple

**Currency**

* A new Space's reporting currency is defaulted from your device's region (signup no longer asks for a currency)

**June 2026**

## Goals, multi-currency & reporting

**Goals**

* Create financial goals with a target amount and date, and link accounts to track progress

**Multi-currency**

* Balances now convert into your space's reporting currency using exchange rates

**Reporting**

* Net worth (assets − liabilities), totals, and per-account balances

**Security**

* Optional biometric app lock (Face ID / fingerprint), verified on-device

**Authentication**

* Sign in with Google

**Legal & compliance**

* New [Information Security Policy](https://recontrol.money/docs/legal/security.md), [Access Controls Policy](https://recontrol.money/docs/legal/access.md), and [Data Retention and Disposal Policy](https://recontrol.money/docs/legal/data.md)
* Privacy Policy and Terms updated to cover connected accounts, international processing, and region-specific privacy rights for **United States** (CCPA/CPRA) and **Canada** (PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25)
