# Plans

> Budgets, goals and watchlists: what you keep to steer your money, and how to start one from what you want.

A **plan** is what you keep to steer your money. None holds or moves money; each reads your books when you look.

## New Plan

**Make a Plan** on Home opens it. Start from what you want, and Recontrol works the answer out from your own numbers before anything is set:

| Want | Makes |
| - | - |
| **Spend Less on Something** | A budget at your usual month |
| **Pay Off a Card or Loan** | A goal, and a budget if you ask |
| **Build an Emergency Fund** | A goal of a few months' spending |
| **Save for Something** | A goal: a home, a car, a trip |
| **Retire One Day** | A goal for the pot that pays your income |
| **Grow My Savings** | A goal, or a watchlist |

Or, under **Or Set One Up Yourself**, open a plan's form directly. Growth and inflation are only ever what you type. On the web, **New plan** offers **Budget**, **Goal** and **Watchlist**; the wants start a new goal, and Spend Less is the budget form.

An account's screen also offers **Set a Budget**, **Set a Goal** and **Add a Watchlist**. On the web, **Budgets**, **Goals** and **Watchlists** each have a place in the sidebar.
