# Shared costs and settling up

> In a space you share, see who paid, who gets back and who owes, and settle up in a tap.

In a space you share, **Shared Costs** shows who gets back and who owes. Home shows your figure. To record a cost, see [Share a cost](https://recontrol.money/docs/tasks/share-a-cost.md).

## Who pays back

Each space answers **Who Pays Back?** once, in **Shared Costs** on the space's page (on the web, **Settings**):

| Answer | Suits | Example |
| - | - | - |
| **We Pay Each Other Back** | trips, housemates | Alex pays €90 for dinner for three: Alex gets back €60, the others owe €30 each. |
| **We Pool Our Money** | couples who pool | Priya pays ₹3,000 for electricity. Nobody owes; you see what each put in. |
| **Studio Pays Us Back** (your space's name) | a company | A founder pays $50 for hosting: Studio owes them $50. |

Switch between the first two at any time; the third only before anyone's money is recorded. **Everyone's Share** sets each person's part of a cost, in percentages.

## What it shows

* **Your figure**: **You Get Back · +€60**, **You Owe · −€30**, or **All Settled Up** once nobody owes.
* **Actions** (on the web, a menu): your payments. Once money has moved, tap **Mark Paid** or **Mark Received**. What you owe is owed to the group.
* **Where Everyone Stands**: each person's figure. Their page's **How It Adds Up** shows the sum, so it checks by hand.
* **Between the Others**: the payments you're not in.
* **Transactions**, saying "Added by Asha" on one someone else added.

**Cover It** lets someone off what they owe you. **Remind Sam** asks a member who owes to settle. **Share Summary** sends the figures as text, for a guest.

Your own space's account for this one ends in a **Shared Costs** card ([how](https://recontrol.money/docs/tasks/share-a-cost.md#from-your-own-space)). Leaving keeps what you paid and owe, under your name, and its confirm says your figure.
