# Import a statement

> Bring a bank's or card's CSV statement into one of your accounts as transactions, on the web.

For history a connection can't reach, or an account no bank connects. Recontrol reads the file in your browser; the file itself is never uploaded.

**1. Open Import a statement**

At [app.recontrol.money](https://app.recontrol.money), in **Transactions** choose **Import a statement**, or choose it from an account's **⋯** (or <kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>K</kbd>, **Import a statement**). Or drop the CSV on Transactions or an account's page. The phone doesn't import.

**2. Choose the account and the file**

The asset or liability the statement is of, then drop the CSV or choose it.

**3. Say which column is which**

The date and how it's written, the note, and the money: one amount column (say whether a deposit is positive or negative) or a money out and a money in column. A running balance is checked row by row.

**4. Check the rows, then choose Import**

Every row says where its other side lands, or **To sort**. A row that doesn't read, is already in, or looks like a transaction already on the account arrives unticked, with why. When the running balance adds up, you can also set the account's balance to the statement's closing figure.

The receipt says what came in, was already there or was refused. Importing the same statement again adds only what isn't in yet. What landed with a blank side waits in **To sort**; see [Sort what synced](https://recontrol.money/docs/tasks/sort-what-synced.md).
