# Record a transaction

> Record money you spent, received or moved: how much, on which day, From where and To where.

For money that changed place in an account you keep by hand. Recontrol records it; it never moves money.

**1. Tap +**

On Home, or on any account, budget or goal to start with it filled in. On the web, **New transaction** on a register, or <kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>N</kbd>, then <kbd>T</kbd>, anywhere. With [Chat](https://recontrol.money/docs/tasks/ask-chat.md), type it in the box (<kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>K</kbd>) and choose **Add with Chat**.

**2. Type the amount**

**±** adds figures: 1200 ± 850 records 2,050.

**3. Answer What was it?**

The shop, the payee, or your own words. The day is **Today** unless you choose another.

**4. Choose From and To**

Spending is From an account To a category; pay is From a source To an account; a card bill is From your bank To the card.

**5. Tap Add**

From goes down and To goes up by the amount. To fix one, open it and tap **Edit** or **Delete** (with **Undo**).

## Variations

* **Two currencies:** enter both real amounts. Recontrol never derives a rate.
* **One side unknown:** leave it blank; it waits in [Sort Your Spending](https://recontrol.money/docs/tasks/sort-what-synced.md).
* **Another of your spaces:** browse that space in the picker. It's recorded in both books.
* **Again:** **Record Again**, in a transaction's **⋯**, copies its note and sides.
