# Set a budget

> Put a ceiling on what you spend over a week, a month, a quarter or a year, and see what's left.

A ceiling on spending: "₹18,000 a month on Groceries and Eating Out", or "\$1,500 a month on this card".

**1. Start a budget**

Tap **New** on Budgets, **Set a Budget** on a category or card, or **Make a Plan** on Home. On the web, **New plan** on Plans, or <kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>N</kbd>, then <kbd>P</kbd>, anywhere.

**2. What spending does it cover?**

Categories count what's spent in them; cards and accounts count what's spent from them.

**3. How much a month, at most?**

**Use ₹8,200** takes what you usually spent.

**4. How often does it start again?**

**Every Month** unless you choose a week, quarter or year, and the day it starts (payday works). This can't change later.

**5. Tap Set**

Unnamed, it's named after what it covers.

Home gains a **Budgets** line ("₹1,500 left"), red once over. Members who can see budgets are told at 90% and 100%.
