# Share a cost

> Record a cost someone paid in a shared space and who it was for, then settle up.

For a cost one person paid for others: a dinner, the rent, a taxi.

**1. Tap +**

On Home in the shared space, or in **Shared Costs**.

**2. Type the amount and answer What was it?**

**3. Choose From and To**

**From** lists **Who Paid** first: **You**, then the others. **To** is the category.

**4. Check For**

It starts as your space's answer, often **For Everyone**. Tap it to choose someone, or **Choose People…** to share **Equally** (**As Usual** where shares differ) or by **Amounts**.

**5. Tap Add**

Everyone's figure changes at once, the same for each of you.

## Someone not on Recontrol

**Add a Guest** ends the **Who Paid** list and asks only for a name. From their page, **Invite Ravi** asks them to join; when they do, their history becomes theirs. **Same Person As…** merges them into a member.

## Settle up

In **Shared Costs**, **Actions** lists your payments. Once the money has moved, tap **Mark Paid** or **Mark Received** (with **Undo**). For another amount, tap **Record Payment**; to let someone off, **Cover It**.

## From your own space

Pay from **Personal** by choosing **To** in the shared space; it's recorded in both spaces. Anything recorded there as yours that Personal doesn't hold yet waits on your page in **Shared Costs**, under **Not in Personal**: **Add** records it.
