A transaction records an amount, a day, a note, and both sides: From and To. Recontrol records money; it never moves it. Household's transactions on the web: each row's day, note, From, To and amount; two have their To left blank. Common patterns

How an amount reads

A row reads its note, or what the money was for, over where it moved: Groceries over From Checking, Salary over To Checking. From, To and the arrow say which way it went. In a list, an amount has no + or −: each one leaves one side and arrives at the other. Its colour says what it did to what you have: green when you have more, red when you have less, plain for a move between your own accounts or one with a side left blank. On an account’s own page, an amount is signed by what it did to that account: + where its figure grew, − where it shrank. Green means the way you’d want it: on a credit card, a payment (−) is green and a charge (+) red.

The day it happened

A transaction’s day is when the money moved, not when you recorded it. Record last week’s purchase with last week’s date and the history corrects itself.

Corrections

An account’s opening balance, and Update Balance, are recorded as adjustments: neither income nor spending. Editing a transaction changes every balance it touched, as if it had always been so; deleting reverses it everywhere. See Why From and To, and Transactions for the screen.
