Splitting and settlements are coming soon. This page will be updated when the feature is available.
When you share expenses with other people — a dinner, a holiday, a monthly household bill — you need a way to record who paid, how it should be divided, and when the resulting debts are cleared. That is what splitting does.

How splitting works

  1. Record a transaction as usual — the full amount, from the account that paid.
  2. Mark it as a split and choose who shares it, and in what proportion (equal, by amount, or by percentage).
  3. Recontrol tracks the outstanding balance each person owes.

Settlements

When someone pays you back, record a settlement. Settlements close the loop: the debt is cleared, the balances update, and the books remain accurate. A settlement is itself a transaction — money moving from the person who owed to the person who was owed. It follows the same double-entry rules as every other transaction.

Who can split

You can split an expense with:
  • Members of the same space — splits within a shared household or group space
  • Anyone outside the space — track what external contacts owe you, even if they are not Recontrol users

Splitting vs. shared accounts

Splitting is for dividing a single transaction. If you want ongoing joint tracking — where multiple people can see and record all transactions together — use a shared space.
